REDKEN EXCHANGE TO RELOCATE
The Redken Exchange, the brand’s educational facility, originally opened its doors on 565 Fifth Avenue in
1996, but this March the newly-renovated Fifth Avenue location will officially open. The 9,100 square-foot
space was designed by Allen + Killcoyne Architects,
also the designer of Hudson Yards, the largest development in New York City since Rockefeller Center and
future home to all L’Oreal brands. Education at the new
Exchange will be part of a brand new Redken curriculum and held within a spacious 72-seat classroom.
Classes will include “Destination NAHA”; facilitated
by Kris Sorbie, Ellen Lawlor and Ruth Roche; “Blonde
Idol – Balayage” facilitated by Kris Sorbie, Adam
Browne and Sean Godard; “Redken Underground” facilitated by Hugo Urias, Justin Isaac and Sean Godard;
“Outside the Lines” facilitated by Sam Villa, Justin
Isaac, Tara Gardiner, Sarah Bramham and Jesse Linares; and “Making the Cut” facilitated by Chris Baran,
Sam Villa and Hugo Urias. “Redken has always been
at the forefront of the industry’s latest techniques and
technology and the Redken Exchange is no exception,”
says Sheri Doss, VP Education, Redken Worldwide.
She adds, “The past twenty years have been an incredible journey filled with many milestones and now with
the new Exchange, we will have a space that brings to
life the latest industry advances and gives us the proper
tools to help the stylist community excel in all that they
do for years to come.”

ARROJO SEMINAR HELD LAST MONTH
Arrojo Academy in NYC regularly holds educational
events and seminars, and last month was no different.
November 15th through 17th Classic Cuts 2 was held for
the second time this year. The seminar, which spanned
three days, had each day focusing on a new aspect of
classic cutting: Day one, long layers; day two, round
graduation; day three, short graduation. Each morning
session featured a master stylist demo, while each afternoon featured a hands-on workshop where students
were able to practice the skills taught in the morning.
“In Classic Cuts 2 we continue to explore classic scissor cutting technique, applied to geometric yet organic shapes. Over the three days attendees will watch,
practice, and master three cuts that improve technical
precision and creative awareness: Classic Long Layer
shows the right approach to layering from the front to
create maximum face-framing shape, while retaining
weight and structure through the back; Classic Round
Graduation displays how to create a perfect rounded
layer shape, elegantly crafted from the front; and Classic Short Graduation reveals techniques for creating
an ultra-tight nape, and a pronounced head shape––the
fundamentals of all short haircutting. Learning these
techniques increases control, flexibility, and style, and
empowers each stylist to improve all cuts, from the
most simple to the most dynamic,” said Nick Arrojo
about the class.
