Brazilian Men Increase Interest in
Cosmetic Surgery
A Study released by the Brazilian Society of Plastic
Surgery revealed that the men’s cosmetic surgery rate
increased exponentially since 2009. The study noted an
increase from 72,000 cases to 276,000 in the period of
2009-2014—and estimated that a surgery happens every two minutes. The three most frequent surgeries include breast reductions, eyelid procedures, and liposuction. Researchers have several thoughts about why the
change in numbers is so dramatic including a decrease
in taboo and an increased awareness in personal image.
