Last Look T Oscars: THE HAIR STORY he 88th Academy Awards was held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood at the end of February. This year’s Oscars was notable for a number of reasons, not the least of which was the lack of diversity among the nominees, which many were quick to point out. Host Chris Rock kept his criticism lighthearted by referring to the event as the “white Oscars” and centering his comedy monologue around the controversy. Academy president Cheryl Boone Isaacs made a more serious statement addressing lack of diversity among the nominees. It was an exciting night for Leonardo DiCaprio, who won the award for Best Actor after having been nominated six times. Brie Larson took home the Best Actress title, and Spotlight won best picture. Whoopi Goldberg sported her signature locks on the red carpet, and Brie Larson wore a gorgeous hair pin on her half up-do. Also wearing a half up-do and adding a sleek bun was Alicia Vikander, who won the Best Supporting Actress award for her role in The Danish Girl. Relaxed waves were a big hit, as seen on Naomi Watts and Sophie Turner, and a more Hollywood inspired wave was worn by both Lady Gaga and Emily Blunt. Scandal star Kerry Washington and Sofia Vergara wore effortless ponytails. Braids were back this year: Chrissy Teigen wore her long hair in a gorgeous loose braid, and Olivia Wilde kept it simple with a braid framing her up-do. The men also looked dashing: Leo, Mark Ruffalo, and Eddie Redmayne wore a more traditional coif, while Dev Patel kept his locks loose and long, and The Weeknd, who performed during the event, sported his signature style.
