Silanes Hold Promise For L’Oreal
L’Oreal has announced the creation of a creative new
ingredient, silanes, that will change the way they develop fine hair products for the better. The research behind
the development of silanes, a group of molecules that
based on the sol-gel technology invented by a French
firm, has been in development for the last 15 years.
Silanes have been used in the development of products
such as Kerastase, L’Oreal Professionnel, and Vich, and
this newest development is likely to enhance even more
of the company’s brands. The goal of Aminosilane, the
latest ingredient, is to be able to penetrate the hair cuticle and provide longer lasting results for fine hair in
products such as sprays and gels. Head of the research
and innovation department, Henri Samain, said, “We
knew that part of the answer was finding a material capable of penetrating the hair, the big question was how.
Following several years of research the ideal solution
came with sol-gels.”
