Beauty SHOESTRING BEAUTY AT HOME by Karley Ziegler Mott F acials are a luxurious treatment we all deserve. They’re relaxing. They’re beneficial. And they can be expensive. We’ve rounded up some ideas from the experts on how to give yourself a facial at home. It just takes some ingredients you likely have in your kitchen and 5 easy step. You can feel like you’re getting the star treatment without breaking the bank. Light some aromatherapy candles. Turn on some soothing tunes, and let the pampering begin. Your skin will thank you. STEP 1: Remove makeup with this kitchen staple. Head to your cabinets, and grab your best oil -- olive, coconut, grape seed -- any will do. Apply a small amount of oil to a cotton pad, and gently sweep across the eyelids and lashes to remove stubborn mascara and eye makeup. 76 COSMOBIZ SALON NOVEMBER 2015 STEP 2: Cleanse the skin. The next step in your at-home facial involves yogurt to cleanse the skin. Why yogurt? Dr. Gillian Palette is a Board Certified Adult Nurse Practitioner specializing in Cosmetic Dermatology and Esthetics. She is a fan of yogurt for at-home facials because it is both anti-fungal and anti-bacterial. Additionally, the lactic acid is a mild exfoliant and can help tighten and cleanse the pores, gently and naturally. Massage a small amount of plain yogurt into damp skin (use tepid water) and rinse clean. STEP 3: Slough off dead skin cells naturally. Exfoliation is crucial, as it helps shed the skin of dead cells that accumulate over time. These dead skin cells can make your skin look dull and dry. You can make a simple exfoliant at home with gentle buttermilk, oatmeal, and honey. Combine equal amounts of the three ingredients, and massage into skin using circular motions. Rinse when done.
