T
he undercut has definitely been taken to the next level lately
by the artistry of talented barbers and hairstylists all over
the world. From intricate designs like James Gartner’s, to
Karen Baxter’s and Whitney Vermeer’s lines and fades that
are simple, yet very edgy. To tell us about undercuts and how to
create them, we have Whitney Vermeer who is a men’s grooming and
hairstyle specialist.
“The undercut is by far the most sought after haircut for men (and
a lot of women) today,” says Vermeer. “In the 1940’s this style was a
clean, more dapper look. Today, there are so many more variations of
the undercut. Currently we are seeing a lot more of a contrast between
the top and bottom while playing with different levels of connection.”
Whitney shares with us her entry for PBA’s NAHA 2015 and how
she creates her designs. “For this collection I was really inspired by
the principles of traditional urban barbering. I have so much respect
for the attention to detail this culture has influenced. I wanted to
include it in this collection and give it a slightly more modern twist
while adding contrast with geometric undertones.”
