Sandor Szel hails from Hungary
where he has been working as a
hairdresser for 14 years. He comes
from a family of cosmetologists
and learned most of what he knows
from his father, “Figaro.” Szel began
a career as a musician and DJ but
soon realized he had a talent for
working with hair. In 2002 he created
the Figaro Team and over the
past couple of years he’s opened
several salons and had numerous
apprentices. At Figaro, they regularly
organize performances, seminars,
and trainings. From 2009 to 2011
Szel managed a Danish franchise
salon. Currently, he works in three
salons (in three different cities) in
Hungary. His collections have been
run in several national and foreign
journals, and his 2012 work called
“Spikes” appeared in many relevant
foreign professional magazines as
well as online.
His work in his “Inception” collection is featured on our cover this month, and here you can see both styles from
“Inception” and his “Fracture” collection. About his work in “Fracture” Szel told us, “I believe that the best results
can only be achieved if the hairstyles are created by serendipity, without any prior planning. Each step formulates
in my mind only once the previous phase has been completed; in a way I feel that as if it wasn’t me who created the
final style - I only let it happen through me. This, as always, has been one of most important aspects of my current
work. In this particular series, the backgrounds in these pictures also play an important role.
