Mary J. Blige Last Look Viola Davis While this year’s Academy Awards were far less dra- matic than last years, the 2018 lineup still had room for some surprises. One of the biggest triumphs of the night was Jordan Peele’s Best Original Screenplay win for “Get Out.” Not only was he the first African Amer- ican to ever win in this category, but he won in spite of significant criticism from the decision board. Leading up to the ceremony, social media was ablaze with criti- cism as some of the long-time Oscar voters hadn’t seen the movie and had no plans to. The film was nominated for three other awards, including Best Picture, and Best Director. Overall, most of the night’s awards went to white passing men, but the inclusion of Peele is a step in the right direction. Seriousness aside, the night boasted some stunning 84 C O S M O B I Z M A G A Z I N E looks from many of our favorites. Riding on the heels of the Black Panther Premier, we were excited to see that many women stuck with their natural hair. We’re particularly loved of Viola Davis’ natural curls! Patrisse Cullors absolutely stunned with her simple outfit paired with an intricate, embellished updo, not to mention, her Black Lives Matter pin. Whoopi Goldberg was also supporting a cause—the star sported a red rib- bon for AIDS awareness. Looking like absolutely royalty, Lupita Nyong’o, Win- ston Duke, and Danai Gurira stole the show for best dressed. The trio are always on our radar for exquisite looks and this Oscar season is no exception.
