realized and experienced being free is much better than restricting self to please others .
However , because of meager finances , my family had to make ends meet . I had to divert my attention to other things , so I became a folk dancer in school . This was so I could get better grades and will be my ticket out of poverty . My mentor became my foster parent . He supported me , trained me , and sometimes he gave me an allowance . While trying to change my future , doing makeup was never forgotten .
I have been a makeup artist since I was 12 years old . It was always a dream of mine back then to have my own cosmetic line . I would spend hours every night recreating the looks I saw in beauty magazines . It became my escape route . When you came from a poor background and a family full of conflicts , you try to find a world that will be a comfort zone . I found art and makeup and it changed my life . I even used the resin of star apple fruit as a glue for false eyelashes because I had no money to buy eyelash glue . The first cosmetic I bought was about about one dollar .
Learning the basics of makeup artistry was not a walk in the park . I had to endure so many roadblocks before finally being able to get away from all the chaos around me . After graduating high school , a friend of my sister helped me get to Manila , the capital of the Philippines and from there everything started to fall into its proper place . I continued being an apprentice of self-made makeup artists to celebrities . My father ’ s relatives took me back in and I found myself back in Lipa City and enrolled in a Nursing course . During my college years ,
I have gained and established a fair number of following from local clients of the town .
My formal lesson in makeup artistry started only in 2015 after I graduated from nursing . To better myself , I took lessons from the School of Fashion and Arts ( SOFA ). After completing my trainings , I took intermediate and basic workshops under MAC Cosmetics . When my sister returned from abroad , she helped turn my dreams into a reality .
I started conducting a Master Class / makeup workshops where I discuss personality development and where I personally teach the participants the basics of applying makeup . My participants vary from young professionals , wedding coordinators , event organizers , and students to name a few . The second batch of my master class will be in April 2018 .
Q2 : What was one of the biggest guides for you as a young makeup artist ? A : As a young makeup artist , I read a lot . When you ’ re a novice in the glamourous world of makeup artistry and you still don ’ t have the means to buy everything you need and all your support system is limited , so you try to find something that will motivate you to persevere . I started turning to motivational books . I listened to life coaches and podcasts . When I read or listen to the experiences of other people and the messages they wanted me to understand , I feel my burdens were lifted somehow .
