Frugal Innovations 14-15 September 2016 Frugal Innovations was set as the theme for the Conference in September , to embrace the forever changing requirements with new materials and science , but keeping in mind that the entire globe and South Africa in particular is under severe economic pressure , and formulators have to be frugal but still innovate to give our customers the best that we can offer .
The conference was well attended , taking into account the business pressures and costs associated in trying to run a conference of this size .
This year we were in the fortunate position to have had great interest in the conference , from both local and international speakers , and we were also privileged to have Claudie Willemin from L ’ Oréal and Past president of the IFSCC . Claudie presented some great cosmetic history facts and showed how innovation has led to the new cosmetic developments we see today .
Further topics covering Hydration and TEWL kinetics , basement membrane repair , hair restoration and repair and synthesis of a musk fixative were covered , to mention only a few . The science presented , was shown to be of high quality , with many interesting outcomes
As the Scientific Committee , we decided to embark on creating a platform for Academia to present papers in 2013 , and over the past years , this has shown valuable research from Academia and young and upcoming Master students . This is an important step in the progression of education , and ensuring that the industry has new and vibrant blood , ensuring longevity . This year we were again fortunate to have presentations from the local Universities .
