Roberto Pena had accounted for five RBIs in his final 17 games of 2015. He matched that output
in Game 1 of the postseason. Batting seventh and eighth in the Hooks lineup, Conrad Gregor and
Pena combined to go 5-for-5 with a double and two home runs. Chris Devenski aced his starting
assignment, striking out a season-high nine batters over six innings. Devenski permitted a couple of
early runs, including a mammoth solo shot off the bat of Josh Whitaker in the second. Following the
blast, Corpus Christi’s Pitcher of the Year limited Midland to a walk and two singles until his exit. Aaron
West and Gonzalo Sanudo teamed for three scoreless innings of relief. A.J. Reed and Danry Vasquez
each turned in a pair of doubles to aid the offensive.
