A 12th-inning collapse and the inability to make clutch contact doomed Corpus Christi in
Game 3. Rocky Gale hit a lead-off double in the 12th. Carlos Quevedo managed to keep
pinch-runner Everett Williams at second as Jeudy Valdez hit a ground ball directly to Jonathan
Meyer at third. With one away and first open, Rico Noel was walked intentionally. Cory
Spangenberg then hit a fly ball to center field. Drew Muren made the catch but tried to double
off Noel. His throw sailed into the Hooks dugout, securing the Missions’ walk-off win. The
Hooks had rallied to tie the game in the eighth and ninth innings but struggled overall at the
plate. Corpus Christi struck out 14 times - seven of those Ks stranded seven men on base
from the eighth thru the 10th.
