Bev has been called upon to speak at conferences the most notable being The Academy of Management’s World-wide
conference in Philadelphia (2007) where she presented a paper on why and where governance needs to change.
Bev is Chair of the Waikato Bay of Plenty netball and a Liquor Licencing Commissioner for the Bay of Plenty.
Career Highlights
• Having a chapter on her work at New Zealand Post included in “Innovation and Management in New Zealand” by Dai
Gilbertson and Russell M. Knight in which her work was acknowledged as that of an entrepreneur.
• Receiving The New York Film Festival’s World Award for an advertising initiative she worked on.
• Completing a Doctoral study of a Board operating in the New Zealand Energy sector.
Geoff is New Zealand born and a trained General Practitioner who has worked in the BOP for
the last 25 years completing hospital years in Tauranga, then working as a GP locum around the
BOP before taking over Gate Pa Medical Centre over 20 years ago. He has been involved with
Primary Health Care boards and has a good overview of hospital issues by attending regular
meetings and through ongoing interaction with hospital colleagues. He brings to the Board a
strong understanding of how the health system functions from a hospital, General Practice and
patient perspective. He also brings common sense from life experience and a voice from the
coalface for patients. Geoff wishes to help the board facilitate improving health for all, especially
those most at need. He does this by enabling patients to look after themselves better and ensuring

excellent back up community and hospital services. He believes this can be achieved through
education and improved efficiencies and communication. Geoff is married to Penny, and together they have raised four
children. In his spare time he enjoys holidaying in the Opotiki area, keeping fit and surfing.
Marion is a Registered Nurse. Her clinical work includes both hospital and community. She
has had four terms as a board member at BOPDHB. Marion has extensive experience in the
health sector, as a nursing leader, on a number of nursing related governance boards, locally,
nationally and internationally. She is a board member of the Western Bay of Plenty Primary
Health Organisation. Marion has a Masters in Nursing and was awarded a Queens Service
Order in 2010 for her services to nursing.
Marion Guy
Peter is an economist by profession. He worked for 22 years for the Reserve Bank of New
Zealand and was Deputy Governor from 1990-1995. Peter lived and worked overseas from 1995-
2015. From 1995 to 1997 Peter was an Executive Director on the Board of the World Bank in
Washington DC representing New Zealand and 11 other countries. In 1997, he was appointed by
the IMF to be the first Governor of the Central Bank to be established in the newly-independent
country of Bosnia and Herzegovina after their war. Peter ended up working in Bosnia for almost
10 years, 7 and a half of them as the CBBH Governor. Peter and his wife and their daughter
returned to New Zealand to live in 2015 and initially settled in Matua, Tauranga and his daughter
attended Otumoetai Intermediate. In early 2018 Peter and his family moved to Cambridge. Peter

still continues to work part-time as a central bank consultant, primarily in Eastern Europe but also
in Africa and Asia. Peter is a member of the NZ Institute of Directors and the NZ Association of Economists.
Matua is a familiar face on the rugby field and in the community. Having balanced a professional
rugby career, business interests and a young family over the last 15 years, he currently
facilitates at Te Wananga o Aotearoa and is a business owner. Matua has served on the
BOPDHB for 2 terms. He is passionate about health and an advocate for healthy living. He
values his health and he knows what it takes to stay healthy. After all he has reached the
pinnacle of his sport. To Matua, Health is Wealth. Matua has lived in Tauranga for over 18 years,
is married to Cheri and together they have three sons. Matua believes in living a fit and healthy
lifestyle.
