CHALLENGE ~ DARE
A Date Solo
WRITTEN BY KATE SUNDIE
I
t can be incredibly difficult
to create and maintain relationships in today’s world, but
there is one in particular we are
prone to neglect. The relationship we have with ourselves often
goes uncultivated, even though it’s
arguably the most important. This
issue of Contentment, we dare you
to take yourself on a date. It doesn’t
matter what it is: dinner and a movie,
a hike, or even just a cup of coffee.
Pick something YOU want to do. The
only requirement is that you go out
and take some time to look inward
and reflect, to get to know yourself.
Turn off your phone, or at least take
a break from it, and take a moment
to think. Let your mind wander and
contemplate the various aspects of
your life. You can think of your big
dreams and long-term goals, or you
can think about what you want to
wear tomorrow. The point is to pause
life’s chaos and learn a little about
yourself. Learn to love yourself a
little bit more, and cherish, rather
than dread, time spent alone. Being
alone isn’t always easy or desirable,
but it’s something we should all try
and become more comfortable with.
So for once, don’t worry about what
someone else would think. Focus on
yourself and the experience you’re
having. No one can hold you back, no
one can make you stay late or leave
early. This experience is all about
you. And that’s more than okay.
