WASHINGTON DC — The National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys (NACBA) has announced that Jake Halpern, author of the highly anticipated book, Bad Paper, will be a keynote speaker at the 23rd Annual Convention set for April 23-26, 2015 in Chicago IL at the Downtown Marriott Magnificent Mile.

Bad Paper: Chasing Debt from Wall Street to the Underworld, explores the underworld of debt collection. It looks at the industry, where having a criminal background is no barrier to entry. Halpern explains debt buying and how little regulation gave rise to a chaotic marketplace.

"I am absolutely thrilled to speak at the NACBA Annual Convention in Chicago." Halpern said. "I have spent the last two years researching the often lawless and largely unregulated darker corner of the debt collection industry. My book has both muckraking and storytelling. My journey involves everyone from bankers to armed robbers! I will take you on my journey from Las Vegas casinos to street corners in Buffalo. I look forward to sharing these stories and meeting you all!"

"We are honored and grateful to have Jake Halpern as a keynote speaker for the 2015 annual convention," said Ed Boltz, president of NACBA. "Jake brings a unique perspective on issues that many clients of NACBA members face. His content is both timely and relative for our membership."

Halpern has published a number of books over the past several years, all stemming from his investigation of the debt buying industry. He has also has written for The New York Times Magazine, The New Yorker, The Wall Street Journal, GQ, Sports Illustrated, The New Republic, Slate, Smithsonian, Entertainment Weekly, Outside and New York Magazine and is a contributor to NPR's All Things Considered and This American Life.
