Tough year for cotton
Final bale count of 51,232 for United Ag locations

By Sally Andel
e have completed another
year of ginning your cotton.
It has been a difficult year
with all the grade and yield
disappointments. Our final
bale count is 51,232 — almost exactly a third
of the bales we ginned last season.
Most yields have averaged around 1.1 bales
per acre. Along with the low market prices,
it is a tough year for our producers and their
landowners.
With all the rainy weather across the Cotton Belt in the last six weeks, you would tend
to believe our cotton prices would be higher.
Instead, they remain virtually the same —
sideways, choppy trading pattern. There is a
strong demand for high-grade cotton since
some merchants have prior sales on the books
and there is a shortage of machine-picked
high grades available.
Keep in mind that the Plains Cotton Cooperative Association Marketing Pool Sign In
Sign Out period is November 15 through December 15. Please let us know if you would like
to sign in or out of the pool during this time.
If you would like for us to e-mail or fax
your 2015 cotton yields to your crop insurance company, give us a call. This year,
because of the lower grades, it is best to send
them a listing with individual bales by class
just in case you have a claim on your grades.
Thank you for your support. Please call or
come by if you need anything!
