As the school year begins to unfold for students, parents, and teachers,
Public Campus Ministries becomes a great opportunity. Two sites have begun
regular meetings in the Kentucky-Tennessee Conference. Vanderbilt University
met for the first time on September 1st with students from Kentucky-Tennessee
and South Central conferences. Also, MTSU students met on September 8.
Several churches around the Kentucky-Tennessee territory are
contemplating Public Campus Ministries. If you are a student in a public
university, prayerfully consider joining one of the established groups and talk
to your church and fellow classmates about it. The Lord may be leading you
to start a ministry. If you work on a public campus or simply have a burden
for students, prayerfully consider starting a Public Campus Ministry in your
church or public campus. Use the gifts the Lord has given you to touch a
student’s life. It could be as simple as preparing a meal on Sabbath or during
the week, inviting a student home on Friday evening, or creating a Collegiate
Sabbath School class or Friday vespers.
“...It may be an understatement to say that ‘perhaps the most important
mission field in contemporary America is the college campus.’ Higher Ed
students make up nearly 7 percent of our national population (20.5 million
undergraduate and graduate students according to 2006 census data). But
because these people grow to be leaders in every sphere, the impact they have
on the world far exceeds their numbers.” Lutz, Stephen (2011-09-01). College
