firsts through
new Special
Olympics
partnership
Garland ISD
HEAT
Special education students
experienced an expanded track and
field competition this spring, thanks
to the district’s new partnership with
the international Special Olympics
organization. Beginning last fall,
students were able to participate
in official athletic games, which
included basketball and bowling. The
partnership allows GISD students
to qualify for local, regional, state,
national and even world Special
Olympics competitions in the future.
