3 The Garland ISD Education Foundation hosted its inaugural Tinsel and Trivia event before Winter Break, bringing in more than $50,000 thanks to the generosity of community sponsors. This money will now be given to teachers and students through grants and scholarships. GEF is also hosting its 17th annual Golf Tournament April 12. The one-of-a-kind event is scheduled for April 27 and will feature campus winners from across the district as they face off against one another in challenges involving coding, parachutes, costumes, robotics, chess and more. They received 2018-19 Texas School Counselor Association CREST Awards, joining an elite group of schools across the state to snag this distinction. 9 Get healthy while helping Garland ISD. Register for the It’s Time Texas Community Challenge at ittcommunitychallenge.com, and then rack up points for the district by posting healthy selfies, tracking physical activity and more. 10 Getting a head start on future literary careers, 12 fourth through eighth-graders from Kimberlin and Austin Academies for Excellence won the nationwide I Write Short Stories by Kids for Kids publishing contest.
