Ayrshire College students have picked up a clutch of awards in recent months.
In October the College won both first and second stage
Scottish Electrical Charitable Training Trust Electrical
Apprentice of the Year Awards in a historic double, thanks
to the efforts of Bobby Collingwood and Stephen Simpson,
first year and second year apprentices who won their
respective categories.
David Cunningham was Highly Commended for the College
Candidate of the Year award at the SQA Star Awards ceremony
on 8 November. Just one week later, sports coaching students
Dale Young, Scott Hindmarsh and David Loughlin won the
Young Community Champions of the Year Award at the RBS
Finding Scotland’s Real Heroes ceremony televised on STV. This
recognised their fantastic work in training kids’ football teams, as
well as tackling knife crime and sectar ianism.
student teams across the UK by offering real life experiences,
exposure to key industry influencers and exciting challenges to
get the very best out of the students. Nestle said this was one of
the best heats to date and teams from Scotland, Northern
Ireland and the North of England set very high standards on the
day. Ayrshire College’s teams are Jordan Jenkins, Ffion
Chambers and Gillian Greenwood, who are studying HND
Hospitality, and Terri Stanovitch, Collette Thompson and Danny
McLaughlin, who are studying SVQ Level 3 Professional Cookery.
The HND Hospitality team was successful in qualifying for the
Grand Final which was held in the Nestle Business Centre in
Berkshire at the end of March and the results will be announced
at an event in the Dorchester, London in early April.
