SECOND GSK STATUE UNVEILED
A second sculpture, designed
by an art and design student
and constructed by the
Fabrication and Welding team
at Ayrshire College, has been
unveiled at GSK in Irvine.
GSK approached Ayrshire
College and Forth Valley College
to design and develop two
sculptures each to depict their
four values.
The first design represented
‘Patient Focus’, showing profiles
of many faces, and arrived in
GSK’s garden during their Patient
and Consumer Week celebration.
This second design is all about
‘Respect for People’ and shows a
couple with a young child on the
man’s shoulders.
HNC Art and Design students
Laura Purves and Jean Muir were
behind the first and second
sculptures, respectively.
The Artist Statement for the
‘Patient Focus’ design reads:
“This sculpture representing
Patient Focus was inspired by
people, patients and living.
“The heads represent GSK’s
patients – it shows the diversity of
the individual, their potential for
growth and the different
directions peoples lives can take.”
For the ‘Respect for People’
design, the Artist Statement
reads: “The artist has chosen a
‘family unit’ to represent Respect
for People. Portraying them as
being interlinked with each other,
demonstrating caring gestures of
affection and respect.
“Caring for others is a basic
demonstration of respect both
for the individual, team or
unit and the environment.”
