AYRSHIRE COLLEGE TACKLES
SECTARIANISM
STUDENTS FROM THE
24/7 PLUS COURSE
TOOK PART IN A
COMPETITION ORGANISED
BY THE LEADING ANTISECTARIANISM CHARITY
NIL BY MOUTH.
‘Pitch Perfect’ is a marketing
competition that asks
students to create and
design an anti-sectarian
awareness campaign.
The Ayr group won with
their idea for an educational
app that explained what
sectarianism is and the law
around it, in a bid to raise
awareness of the issue
amongst fellow students.
The Kilwinning group
proposed an awareness
raising campaign featuring
one-off workshops at each
campus specifically focusing
on asking students to think
before they post messages
on social media channels.
The Kilmarnock group also
designed an app urging
football supporters to ‘Take
Back the Game’ and report
instances of sectarian abuse
to ensure the sole focus at
football matches is football.
Nil By Mouth will now work
with the students to roll
out a version of the winning
product across all campuses.
Meanwhile, our Sport and
Fitness students supported
the ‘Colour of our Scarves’
event at Rugby Park, where
over 100 school pupils took
part.
‘Colours of our Scarves’ is a
Scottish Government funded
project run by Supporters
Direct Scotland with the
aim of tackling sectarianism
in Scotland around football
and sport.
Project Manager Mark Reid
called on Ayrshire College
students to assist at his
Rugby Park event, which
had six activities including a
workshop on sectarianism.
