CAMPUS NEWS
AYR COLLEGE
TWO Ayr College construction
students have come up with an
a-maze-ing project to help
children at the campus nursery.
Staff at Bright Sparks asked the NPA
joinery class to build a mini-maze bench,
which will give the children a place to
listen to stories, sing songs or chat to
friends in the nursery garden.
Learning development advisor Nobu
Raeside explained: “Stefan Davidson
and Kevin Haywood (pictured right),
took on the project as part of their
PLD citizenship project, working outside
class time.”
Stefan said: “We knew this would be
a challenge – the pentagon shape is
complicated, and the base is so large
we had to build it outside the workroom
because it wouldn’t fit through
the door!”
Bright Sparks nursery manager Linda
Burgess said: “Stefan and Kevin
have been really enthusiastic and
we are extremely grateful.”
A TALENTED Ayr College
student is flying high after
her artwork was chosen
as the official logo for
the inaugural Prestwick
World Festival of Flight.
HNC Visual Communications student
Christine Gordon spent four months
working on her design for festival
t-shirts, posters and merchandise.
She said: “It was a challenge, but
great experience. I am really proud
of my work.”
Peter McClurg, Creative Arts lecturer
at Ayr College, said: “As well as a £200
prize, Christine has gained real-life
experience and has successfully
showcased her skills to come up
with a really innovative design.”
The Prestwick Festival of Flight, which
runs from August 30 to September 8,
commemorates the first flight landing
at the seaside town 100 years ago.
