STUDENTS COOK AT PARLIAMENT

HOSPITALITY AND PROFESSIONAL COOKERY STUDENTS HOSTED A SPECIAL DINNER SERVICE AT THE SCOTTISH PARLIAMENT .

Students debate ‘ media representation of women ’

SOCIAL SCIENCE STUDENTS RAISED AWARENESS OF ‘ MEDIA REPRESENTATION OF WOMEN ’ BY A PANEL DISCUSSION HIGHLIGHTING HOW TO MAKE A POSITIVE DIFFERENCE AND PROMOTE GENDER EQUALITY .
Under the guidance of Hospitality Lecturer Claire Anderson and Professional Cookery Lecturer Graham Headland , the students prepared and served a three course dinner menu in the prestigious Members ’ Restaurant to invited guests including MSPs .
Willie Coffey MSP said that the dinner was “ fantastic ” and Brian Whittle MSP was “ highly impressed ”.
It was an amazing experience for the students and they got a tour of the Parliament buildings after the dinner .
There was a motion in Parliament after the event applauding the students take-over of the restaurant .
The debate was chaired by HND Social Science student Sharon Menzies , with a panel of experts :

• Kayleigh Haggo , Sports Coaching student
• Lainey McKinlay , Student Vice President
• Hala Ousta , Scottish Football Association
• Davy Thompson , White Ribbon campaign
Students and staff from across the College were invited to join in the panel discussion , examining a range of areas such as women in sport , women in STEM careers , questions around the portrayal of women in politics , reality TV and video gaming and violence against women .
Jamie Greene : Welcoming Ayrshire College Students to the Parliament - That the Parliament welcomes the students from Ayrshire College who will be managing the Members ’ Restaurant on 2 November 2016 ; recognises the important educational role that a hands-on approach can offer students , and applauds the college for helping facilitate what it sees as a great initiative , which recognises that education shouldn ’ t be limited to desk work .
