4 WINTER 2016 Inspiring Achievement Graduation 2015 Laura Aitken I have always found psychology interesting and knew that was the career route that I wanted to take, so when I left school I came to Ayrshire College to study HNC Social Sciences, which was a great place to start. The course was fantastic as it covered a wide range of subjects and covered my main interests including psychology, criminology and research methods. I have learnt so much from the course, developing new skills such as organisation skills, communication skills and report writing, all of which will benefit me at university. I found my college experience to be fulfilling both socially and academically. Due to my disability, I was initially apprehensive about coming to college. However, this was short-lived as both the students and the staff were so supportive. Not only did I leave college with an HNC qualification, I also left with a great group of friends. I’m so excited to have accepted a place at Glasgow Caledonian University to study Applied Psychology. Stephen Wilson Before I came to college I was a roofer for five years. I wanted to do something different and become a PE teacher or sport coaching lecturer. The course was brilliant. I went down to Bath for the British Championships for two years and we also did a lot of volunteering. I worked with disabled children at Ayrshire Sportsability events. It was really rewarding and opened my eyes to see how disabled children can take part in sport by making slight adaptions. I went on a placement with Crosshouse Primary and Grange Academy. Through volunteering at Crosshouse, I went on their residential trips for two years and I now have a summer job with the East Ayrs
