Celebrating Success Inspirational martial artist at Irvine #THISAYRSHIREGIRLCAN NC ADVANCED SPORT AND FITNESS STUDENT AMY MITCHELL STUDIES AT OUR SKILLS CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE IN IRVINE. Outside of college Amy has achieved remarkable success in karate. Amy originally took up karate to stand up to school bullies. She has advanced so much that she became Student of the Year for the entire UK martial arts community in 2016. “ People might think a girl doing martial arts is strange, but in the last year it’s actually been the fastest growing sport for girls to take part in. ” When Amy was just 16 years old she won a European Championships competition for the 18-35 age group, and was also placed in a World Championships competition held in Poland. Now 18, Amy has plans to open her own karate club in her home town. Amy said “I think it’s a good idea to get children off the streets and teach them what I’ve learned.
