CN looks at fi ve top leisure venues in Milton Keynes that
can complement any conference for delegates
Bletchley Park – Birthplace of the
modern computer and once a
top-secret home of the World War II
codebreakers, the destination is
now a heritage attraction.
Visitors from around the world
have been coming to Bletchley Park
for 20 years, to examine the secret
intelligence achievements. Last year
alone 250,000 visitors came to the
park.
The industrialisation of the
codebreaking processes at
Bletchley Park was enabled by
machines such as the Turing/
Welchman Bombe and the world’s
fi rst electronic computer, Colossus.
At the end of the War, the
expertise developed at Bletchley
Park was taken forward in the
organisation known now as the
Government Communications
Headquarters (GCHQ).
Today the Bletchley Park Science
and Innovation Centre (BPSIC),
established in 2004, provides
serviced offi ce accommodation
which is designed to foster the
growth and development of dynamic
knowledge-based businesses on
the site.
There is a permanent exhibition
including in the admission entitled
‘Secrecy and Security – Keeping
Safe Online’ and another called ‘The
Road to Bletchley Park’. Afternoon
tea is also available on selected
dates and workshops on 1940s hair
and make up.
Opening times until 31 October
are 09.30 – 17.00 and adult
admission is £17.50 with
concessions available.
Xscape – Home to real snow
slopes and indoor skydiving
– play eat and shop at one of
the UK’s premier leisure
destinations. Just don’t forget
to bring your best adrenaline
supply.
Inside the complex you will
fi nd real snow at Snozone, the
indoor refrigerated snow
slope. There are beginner ski
lessons and more advanced
freestyle features.
Next door to Snozone is iFly,
an indoor skydiving
experience, perfect for
corporate and teambuilding
events.
Other activities include the
Ellis Brigham Climbing Wall.
Two 13m towers offer a
challenge for up to 10 people
at a time, with supervision
from highly trained staff.
A Hollywood Bowl offers 18
bowling lanes and if you fancy
something less physical, a
Cineworld is also on site.
For over 18s there is a Super
Casino.
Milton Keynes’ leisure offer is one that many like cities
