Milton Keynes
Milton Keynes at 50
n 23 January 1967, Her
Majesty the Queen designated
the New Town of Milton Keynes
to provide a commercial centre
for Buckinghamshire. The city has had
many red letter days since, which have
helped MK grow into the internationally
acclaimed powerhouse that it currently is.
In 1969, The Open University was founded
in Walton Hall; a world class organisation
which continues to lead its fi eld to this day.
Many more businesses have since chosen
Milton Keynes as the location for their head
offi ce, including Red Bull Racing, Network
Rail, Santander, Home Retail Group and
many more. In 50 years, MK has become a
hot-bed for industry and business growth.
In more recent years, MK has cemented
its reputation as an International Sporting
City; with the Stadium: mk, home to MK
Dons, opening in 2007. In 2015, the city
played host to three Rugby World Cup
matches, throwing MK onto the
international stage.
Looking back
