8 News Davidson honoured Memorial event for Paul Flackett Academic, industry guru, MICE consultant and former CN columnist Rob Davidson was honoured with the ibtm Lifetime Achievement award at the Meetings Leadership Summit, held in the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona on the eve of ibtm world in November 2017. CN is sad to say goodbye to Rob’s column that has run in this magazine for more than 12 years. We hope our ‘Lifetime’ friend will revisit us occasionally in the future and continue to share his pearls of wisdom. We take this opportunity to thank Rob for all his insight over the years and hope that our readers have enjoyed his musings as much as we have. IMEX Group has confirmed a memorial for Paul Flackett, its managing director, who passed away in November following a long illness, will be held on 15 January. The memorial is open to industry colleagues, and will be held at the QEII Centre in Westminster. Those wishing to attend can complete a form (by 5 January) available from IMEX, which offers an opportunity to include short anecdotes and photos for a book IMEX is compiling for Paul’s family. Petition launched Following the news that Bracknell Forest Council is considering the sale of Easthampstead Park conference centre, residents have organised a petition to keep the centre. It received over 6,000 signatures in the first week. Campaigner David Luck told CN the Council “had also submitted the House and its grounds to their current site allocation process as a potential site for housing development.” PCMA CEO Sexton stands down The Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA) has announced a change in leadership. After more than 12 years at the helm, president and CEO Deborah Sexton has decided to move on and launch a consultancy. She will step down after the upcoming Convening Leaders event in Nashville in January 2018. Sexton shared her decision with the board of directors at the September 2017 board meeting. The board voted unanimously to approve chief operating officer Sherrif Karamat as the new CEO, in line with the association’s succession planning. Sexton and Karamat have worked closely together since 2005. With 6,000 members and 50,000 subscribers, PCMA is the world’s largest network of business events strategists. At the time of press, the chief operating officer position is yet to be filled. 2Heads win contracts Brand experience agency 2Heads has announced it has won four multi-year contracts, including Rolls Royce, Airbus, Sony, and Grass Valley. Rolls-Royce has selected 2Heads to deliver its Global Exhibitions Design and Management Services programme for three years. The Airbus partnership sees 2Heads take charge of HAI Heliexpo, the largest show of its kind. MPI confirms scholars MPI UK & Ireland, on 4 December, announced the winners of the latest edition of the Vanessa Cotton Scholarship Award as Delyth Davies from Oxford Brookes University and Holly Steenson from Leeds Beckett University. Davies and Steenson were acknowledged for their achievements at MPI’s Christmas Celebration event at the www.conference-news.co.uk Sofitel London St James where they celebrated with a drinks reception and networked with over 35 event professionals from leading agencies including Clive, Imagination, JLE Events Management, TBA PLC and TimeBased. The pair will commence their month-long scholarships at Reed Exhibitions in the summer.
