PRAGUE CONGRESS CENTRE
YOUR PATH TO A SUSTAINABLE CONGRESS WITH A GREAT VIEW
Being the largest congress centre in the Czech Republic, the Prague Congress Centre (PCC) retains its prestige not only for
its size and tradition but also for its sustainability initiatives, professional manpower and fantastic view over the historical
city. This venue regularly turns into a hub of international medical congresses.
Fresh air was brought to the Prague
Congress Centre recently as it underwent
complete interior refurbishment. To keep up
with the high-tech era approximately 180
CISCO Access points and 2,000 data
slots were installed throughout the building
as well as a new digital information
and navigation system. All these positive
changes were recently experienced by
the attendees of the 12th congress of the
European Association of Haemophilia and
Allied Disorders (EAHAD). A record number
of participants was brought to Prague
this year not only thanks to the
attractiveness of the city and venue
location but also due to advances in
genetic therapy, which keep publishing
promising results making an opportunity
for a high-quality discussions during the
congress. In 13 halls and meeting rooms
EAHAD also found great variable options
to host its inspiring sessions.
The PCC paves its way towards a
sustainable future and was therefore an
attractive venue for this ecologically minded
organiser. It offered comfort without an
environmental compromise. Thanks to its
new technologies, the venue annually saves
11 533m 3 of water (3 Olympic pools),
9 740 945 kWh of energy (consumption
of 5019 households) and 726 tons
of CO 2 that would take one year for 33 456
trees to absorb. Moreover, PCC together
with its catering partner, Zátiší Catering,
offered tasty seasonal dishes made from
local and fresh products and minimized food
waste thanks to careful catering planning.
We asked the President of the EAHAD 2019 congress, Dr. Jan Blatný, to share with us thoughts on the event as he played a major
role in getting the congress to Prague. This year it was attended by more than 2600 medical experts, pharmacists and community
representatives from 80 countries, making it a record-breaking number in the history of the congress.
What is the meaning for the Czech
physicians holding the congress in
Prague?
I consider this to be sort of confi rmation
that the way we take care of the patients
with bleeding disorders is internationally
recognised. It is an appreciation of the
Czech Republic and the cooperation of its specialists - physicians,
nurses, physiotherapists, insurance companies – all, who take care of
patients with bleeding disorders. No country where the care wouldn’t
be at a high level would become the host of such a congress.
How did you feel about holding the congress at the Prague
Congress Centre? Was it a good fi t?
About two years ago I started exploring the possibilities of the venue
and I have to say the great advantage is its space. Secondly there is
a nice view. Everyone I talked to at the congress really appreciated
the lovely view over the city. I also want to say I experienced a great
hospitality of the staff of the centre including the hotel Holiday Inn –
from the people I met at the information desks to the management
I had meetings with. So, I am very happy we were able to make
the meeting here.
