n order for the Reflective Writing Exercises and Mindful Dialogues to be most effective, it is very
important to convey the following instructions and guidelines to Participants prior to them doing these
exercises during each session.
R EFLECTIVE W RITING E XERCISES
For the Reflective Writing Exercises, it is important to stress that whatever the participants write is for their
benefit and their eyes only. It is best to simply write whatever comes to mind after reading the question and
continue writing, without thinking too much or worrying about grammar, syntax, spelling, etc. Simply
write. Participants will often surprise themselves with what they write. Be sure to give them a warning a
couple minutes before the end of the exercise to finish up their thoughts. After they are done, you can ask if
anyone would like to share something from the experience, either from the writing itself or about the
experience itself. There should be no pressure to share. It is totally voluntary.

Our Hearts, to Our Souls ― and Into Our Lives . Jewish Lights. 2016.)
