Lela Faye ( Wood ) Thaxton was born in a log cabin in Bagnell , Mo ., on Jan . 7 , 1932 . She is the daughter of John and Era Wood . Her father helped build Missouri ’ s Bagnell Dam and worked for the Railroad for many years . Her mother stayed busy with a full house of 10 children — Faye was number seven of the 10 children . At the age of 12 , Faye was baptized at Aurora Springs Baptist Church .
Faye began school at the age of 4 , and she recalls on her walk to school she always encountered a goat that would try to jump the fence and get her . She attended school eight consecutive years without missing one day and graduated from Eldon High School , lettering in volleyball . While attending school , she worked at Eldon ’ s Dime Store , and waited tables at one of the largest restaurants on the Lake of the Ozarks .
After the flood of 1951 , the family moved to Kansas City , where she met Thomas Thaxton , whom she later married . The couple had five wonderful daughters . Faye loves to travel and has been all over the United States and twice to Israel . Faye has lived in many places during her lifetime . In 1978 , they settled in Virgil City , Mo .
In her spare time , Faye enjoys playing games . One of her favorite games to play with her friends at Community Springs is Bingo . Faye is a proud grandmother of 20 grandchildren , and 43 great-grandchildren , with number 44 on the way . Her family includes three sets of twins . Thank you for sharing your story and being our resident of the month .
