Construction Highlights

The hospital landscape has taken on a total transformation since Joseph Brant Hospital ’ s official groundbreaking event on March 30 , 2015 for the patient care tower , with construction on-time and onbudget . The building now stands 10 stories tall with hundreds of blue windows shining on Burlington ’ s Waterfront Trail . Over 200 construction workers continue to make progress every day . Construction will be complete in early summer 2017 . The move into the Patient Tower will take place in September 2017 .
Highlights to date this year include :
• In February , the last concrete was poured to create the top level of our new patient tower .
• In March , the penthouse ( the mechanical and electrical brain of the building ) equipment was installed , with seven air handling units , three generators , seven boilers and three chillers to support the daily functioning of the building .
• In June , the last window on Level 7 of our new patient tower was installed , the penthouse on Levels 8 and 9 was enclosed and roof work on Level 10 ( the top level ) was complete . The building is now weather-tight and electrical , mechanical , plumbing and duct work has begun on the inside .
• The pedestrian bridge structure was connected from Level 2 of the parking facility to Level 1 of the new tower in June .

• Landscaping started in the future labyrinth and healing garden in June .
• Two crane towers were disassembled in June and building materials and equipment are now transported either using the man and material hoist on the side of the tower or a mobile crane .
• The main lobby staircase was erected in July .
• Inside , installation of drywall and ceilings continues , creating the definition of each of the departments and rooms .
• Renovations to our existing hospital have also begun . The Pharmacy , Ambulatory Care Clinics and Maternal and Child Unit are just a few of the programs receiving a total makeover . The new Maternal and Child Unit will be the first clinical space within the existing hospital that reflects the look and feel of the finishes in the new tower . The unit will feature patient rooms , each with a modern 3 piece bathroom , a new airborne precaution room , medication room , communication station , security system and new wireless technology . Every level of our existing hospital will be linked to the new Patient Tower .
