Members on the move... 2017 CAI West Florida Chapter Presidents’ Summit This great event was held on November 7th, 2017 and was very well attended by board presidents and other board members. Presentations were made and panel discussions were held on a wide variety of WRSLFVE\ORFDOH[SHUWVLQWKHLU¿HOGV HALL OF FAME INDUCTEE FLOYD “DUFFY” SMILEY Ashtabula High School Class of 1966 Duff Smiley was a three-year letterman in baseball and football while at Ashtabula High School. In 1970, he graduated from the US Air Force Academy. He was DSLORWLQDYDULHW\RIDLUFUDIWDQGÀHZRYHUKRXUVLQFOXGLQJFRPEDWPLVVLRQVLQ Southeast Asia, Panama, and Saudi Arabia. He retired in 1991 as a Lieutenant Colonel and Director of Operations of a squadron of 300 aircrew members in Airborne Warning and Control. Following the Air Force, Duff worked as an analyst and program manager at the General Motors (GM) Design Center. While at GM, Duff established the GM Veterans Group working on veterans’ outreach, military recruiting, and coordinating GM’s participation at many conferences. These included the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) annual conferences and two major conferences for disabled veterans. He played a major role in GM’s development and donation of a driver's simulator to Walter Reed Military Hospital to provide training for military amputees. He retired from General Motors in 2008 and founded the Phoenix Veterans Foundation to assist disabled veterans. While at GM, Duff founded the Detroit Chapter of the Air Force Academy Alumni Association.  )URPWKURXJK'XIIDQGKLVZLIH'LDQHDFWLYHO\SURPRWHGIRVWHUFDUHDQGDGRSWLRQ7KH\IRVWHUHGRYHU 20 children and adopted three. Duff was also on the Board of the Michigan Association of Foster and Adoptive parents for ¿YH\HDUVDQGZDVDPDMRUDGYRFDWHIRUIRVWHUFKLOGUHQLQKLVFRXQW\DQGVWDWH After moving to Florida, Duff was active in his community as a Board Member and President of his homeowner’s association. He is currently a board member and President Elect of a regional organization promoting community associations. At the state level, he participates on the Florida Legislative Alliance to promote effective community association legislation in state government. He was elected to a national organization for community associations representing homeowner board members. Duff graduated with a Bachelor's Degree from the Air Force Academy in 1970. In 1983, he received a Master’s Degree in Operations Research, and received an MBA in 1993. His awards include the Air Force Meritorious Service, Air Force Air Medal (2), David Rist Military Research Award, General Motors Veterans Award, and Homefront Hero Award.
