COMMITTEE UPDATES COMMITTEE UPDATES Community Outreach by Amber Korody Walters Management Company The Community Outreach Committee has been very busy this year! From the 5K Race For Autism in March to the Ask the Experts - Reserve Study Edition in April - we are all over San Diego spreading good words with great people. The Ask the Experts - Reserve Studies collaborative event with the Education Committee was a huge success! We ventured down to the Winding Walk Community in Chula Vista welcoming homeowner leaders and managers alike to some free breakfast and education. Our Annual Food Drive kicked off on May 1st with our CAI-SD Cares day at Feeding America San Diego set for June 23rd. Check our Facebook Page for updates on where to drop off food for the drive! And as always, volunteers are welcome and there is plenty of room on the committee for more. We meet on the Fourth Thursday of every month at 1:00 PM in the CAI Office Conference Center! The Education Committee is very pleased that the Spring 2018 education programs including the CID-Law Course on March 23rd, the Ask the Experts Road Show (Reserve Studies) on April 11th, and the ABC’s of Asphalt on April 17th were all well attended and received rave reviews. Thank you to all the educators and speakers! The Annual Education Conference on May 16 was held for the first time in North County and featured an All-Star lineup of industry experts to educate attendees on: Insurance, Roofing, Board Decisions, & Lawyers, Lead and Lending. Plan to join us at our upcoming education programs this summer: Friday, June 29th San Diego Trade Show and Luncheon at the DoubleTree - Mission Valley presenting, “Dawn of the Smart Community” AND Friday, August 3rd North County Trade Show and Luncheon at the Sheraton - Carlsbad presenting, “Pesticide Use in Landscaping!” Legislative Support by Kieran Purcell Epsten Grinnell & Howell, APC Education Services by Sue Hawks McClintic & Laurie Poole Epsten Grinnell & Howell, APC & Adams Stirling PLC 24 | SAN DIEGO COMMUNITY INSIDER SUMMER 2018 WHY IT’S IMPORTANT TO PARTICIPATE IN LEG DAY CAI-California Legislative Action Committee (“CLAC”) Legislative Day at the Capitol was held on April 8-9 in Sacramento. This event provides CAI members the opportunity to attend education sessions, meet CLAC Delegates from around the state, as well as meet with and educate their legislators about pending legislation. Why Should You Attend: 1. Education and Continuing Education Units (CEUs”): Participants in the 2018 Leg (pronounced “ledge”) Day event were able to attend educational sessions regarding pending legislation and a variety of community governance issues. CAI designees who attended both days earned 10 CEUs. 2. Let your Voice be Heard: One of CAI’s greatest strengths is the diversity of its membership which is comprised of homeowners, community managers, service providers who live in and work with community associations. While CLAC Delegates are diligent, hardworking, experienced professionals, no one knows how a pending bill will affect you, your community or your business better than you do. Your unique input can make an important difference, but only if you make your voice be heard.
