“I am excited to meet people from other nation and learn about their customs and culture.” - Nima Shakya “The Homestay project makes us realize that our culture and tradition are very precious and we have to set and live by our motto to keep our culture alive for years. In our Homestays, we have even started practicing some of our rituals that people had stopped practicing a few years back.” - Biswas Bajracharya 5. Patan Community Homestay Patan is an ancient city; an example of one of the most profound civilizations inside the Kathmandu Valley established around 3rd century BC. Those ancient glories still echo in this modern day on its amazing temples, interesting lifestyle and creativity in the variation of the food menu; the way of life-celebration, festivals and people themselves. Newars, an ethnicity who are indigenous to the Kathmandu Valley are the dominant population residing in the Patan city with their rich traditional values, handicraft, and local commerce centers. Patan, as much as it is old-fashioned, it is, likewise, a developed and organized city. Patan Durbar Square has, seems to, frozen the current of time, as it still looks as some of the old paintings, brushed toward the devotion of the beauty of Patan Durbar Square. Lots of local activities like temple visit, heritage walk, mingling with community people, rituals, festivals, food are abundant in a radius of 2 kilometers. Mission: Patan is an ancient, historical and traditional city with the treasure of art and culture. As already a very famous tourist destination, Patan Community Homestay has come forward with the locals to let the travelers explore the untold and hidden gym of Patan i.e. their precious culture and tradition which for sure travelers can’t experience staying at a hotel. “There are a number of hotels and guest house for the travelers. But, I am sure that they won’t be able to portray our culture, our tradition like our Homestays do. We are happy that we are now able to share our culture and tradition with the world.” - Divya Buddhacharya Vision: Patan Community Homestay aims at preserving the precious culture and tradition which are shadowed in this modern era. Involvement of the locals through Homestay in the preservation and promotion of the local art and culture is the main motto of the project. 14 www.communityhomestay.com www.communityhomestay.com 15
