Even though the population, land mass, linear miles of roadway and the
resulting traffic congestion have continued to increase over the past ten
years, the number of traffic crash fatalities per 100,000 residents has
experienced a slight trend downward in the City of Port St. Lucie. The
number of Traffic Crash Fatalities per 100,000 in the City is dramatically
lower than the State and National statistic, which have both shown
an increasing trend over the last four years while Port St. Lucie has
experienced a decreasing trend. However, the City recognizes there is
always work to be done to keep roads safe.
ANNUAL NUMBER OF COMBINED RESIDENTIAL AND AUTO BURGLARIES
Burglaries to homes and vehicles have traditionally been the most prolific crimes in the City of Port St. Lucie. Over
the past seven years, the Police Department has deployed a deliberate crime reduction strategy called Stratified
Policing in an effort to combat these specific crimes. During this time period, these crimes have steadily trended
down from 1,622 to 664 annually. This is a 59.1 percent reduction in burglaries in the City.

ANNUAL CRIME RATE
The annual crime rate for the City of Port St.
Lucie continues a downward trend. In fact,
the crime rate is at an all-time low, despite
the increase in population and commercial
establishments over the past several years.
Additionally, the total number of index crimes
(not adjusted for population) is at approximately
the same level it was in the year 2000, when
the population of the City was 100,000 less.
