t may be wet and cold outside , but warm welcoming interiors make coming home a delight . Just imagine snuggling up in front of a crackling fire with a hot drink as snow and sleet pelt down and the wind gusts around the building . This is comfort personified and a perfect way to spend a cold winter evening .

Hints of wedgewood blue , chilli reds and glowing purples brighten up the classic décor of whites , creams , greys and charcoals which are so fashionable at the moment . In a world where sustainability and environmentally friendly materials dominate , natural colours are also popular . This white washed larch tree trunk side table ( below ) has been covered with organic oil to preserve the wood with a smoothed and polished top , which remains gently uneven and irregular .

“ Lush greens and smoky violets team cleverly with wicker and natural wood reconnecting homes with the earth and nature . The look is rooted in the found , revamped and restored rather than the pristine new and plants are everywhere , improving the air we breathe while they fill a space with life , colour and texture ,” comments Louise Tod , Senior Global Colour Designer at Dulux . “ this new Romanticism brings natural elements into the home just as the cold weather forces us inside from the cold .”
She adds “ A horizon line between the deep colours of the forest and a pale sky above behind a display of your favourite plants creates a dreamy sense of distance in a small living space . Display plants like collections of artwork and accessories , warm LED lighting placed behind and below plants cast shadows that make the colours look even more beautiful at night .”
Adding in texture and colour emphasises the sense of warmth and romanticism , perfect for relaxing or holding parties . Tartan fabrics offer a classic stylish way to update any interior scheme especially when using fireside reds , country greens and gentle browns such as this lovely chair from Tetrad . The Braemar is an exquisite hand crafted piece , beautifully proportioned with elegant curves and back , shown here in Winter Check Harris Tweed .
