Originally a youth choir, every August the most talented northeast Florida vocalists audition for the prestigious vocal ensemble, which has performed with Barry Manilow, Peabo Bryson, Oleta Adams, Paul Shaffer, Jon Secada, Regina Belle, and Manhattans’ Gerald Alston. At the star-studded 2003 New York City tribute to Grammy Award winning singer/ songwriters Ashford & Simpson, Ritz Voices shared the stage with Dionne Warwick, Bill Cosby, Freddie Jackson, Paul Shaffer and Lisa Fisher. Just 3 weeks later the youth ensemble walked away with 1st place “Out of Town” honors (Adult category) at New York’s’ McDonald’s Gospel fest. When Wayne Weaver, former owner of the Jacksonville Jaguars hosted the NFL owner’s annual meeting on the flight deck of the USS John F. Kennedy in 2004, it was Ritz Voices he tapped for entertainment. The young people received accolades for their mesmerizing performance of patriotic tunes. Ritz Voices, a 501 (c3) not-for-profit arts organization, has represented Jacksonville at many formal events, including the annual Martin Luther King Breakfast, opening of the new transportation hub in downtown Jacksonville, the Mayor’s Holiday Party at City Hall, Jacksonville Int’l Airports new wing opening, Jax Day at the State Capitol in Tallahassee, and the inauguration of every Mayor and City Council President from 2003-2010. As the young singers matured, most remained with Ritz Voices, and today its members are high school age and older. While the program’s emphasis is on American musical art forms, the choir has an extensive repertoire which includes inspirational, classical, patriotic and music of other cultures. At this time, In-person rehearsals have been suspended due to the pandemic, however plans are being made to continue the ensemble virtually. On hand to interpret the National Anthem for the hearing impaired is ROAR Cheerleader Kinsey.
