Resident Spotlight Mardell Alff
Mardell Alff was born on April 5 , 1942 , to Edwin and Marilyn Nelsen in Anita , Iowa . She grew up in Anita and went to school up to the 11th-grade . Her father passed away so she had to quit high school to help her family .
“ It seems like I have worked , worked , worked all of my life . I never had time to relax and do any type of hobbies ,” says Mardell . “ I was never the type to sit around and do nothing . I was always on the go .”
One day when she was at a horse show , she met the man of her dreams , Raymond Alff . He must have been the one because they were married six weeks later on Oct . 9 , 1959 , at the local courthouse .
The Alffs had four children . Ron , Tom and Denny reside in Buffalo , and Tracy Evers lives at Osage Beach . They also have 15 grandchildren and great-grandchildren .
Raymond worked construction , so the Alffs traveled a lot . “ One day Ray came to the Elkland area for a job and he fell in love with it . Not long after that , we moved and have
been here ever since ,” says Mardell .
As a stay-at-home mom , Mardell enjoyed spending time with her children and also took care of the chickens and pigs . She says she enjoyed the farm-style life .
After their retirement , Mardell and Ray decided to part their separate ways , but they have remained friends .
Mardell came to Colonial Springs last October . She enjoys socializing with the ladies at her dinner table , watching her television shows , and she likes to read . She also enjoys getting her nails manicured twice a month .
