How has social media helped you grow ?
Social media has been a powerful aspect of my music career . I can definitely say the internet and social networking has been the number one resource for me as an artist . Although nothing beats having eye to eye contact and someone ’ s full attention , the internet DOES offer conveniences for businesses and entrepreneurs that simply weren ' t available before . Being able to reach out to essentially ANYONE in the world that participates in some form of social media is priceless and doesn ' t come at a high price , the cost of internet . Take advantage everyday !
Who ' s at the top of your playlist on your iTunes or radio right now ?
My playlist still consists of the same artist it always did ; Tupac , Bone Thugs , Twista , T . I , Lil Wayne . But I got new music from Future , Rich Homie Quan , Meek Mill , Fabolous , and Drake .
How do you feel about being an independent artist ?
Its dope . I ’ m gonna try and embrace the opportunity in whatever situation you put me in , and I just treat everyday like today could be the last time I step on the stage or into the booth , gotta live in the NOW . Being independent for me is not an insurmountable disadvantage , because I have an independent label backing me . As with anything in life , it is what you make it and nothing is ever easy .
How much has your fan base grown since working alongside Lil Zane ?
My fan base has grown significantly . I ' m based out of the Tampa Bay area , Florida and the majority of my fans before I signed with Zane were located in the Central Florida area . Since then , I ' ve performed in different cities and states and have virally gained easily ten times the amount of fans I had before I got to work with the team . My demographics on my website and YouTube cover a lot of states and have started to travel outside the border as well !
What are the goals and heights that Soulja P wants to reach ?
My goal in this music industry is to be remembered for making great music and positively effecting people ’ s lives with it . Even if it ’ s just a smile on your face or getting you past a rough time . I don ’ t get tied up in all of the politics ; I just love the process of making music and want to share my creations with the world !
Any advice for young people that want to succeed in the hip hop / rap world ?
There ’ s a lot of things I would express to anyone trying to get into the rap industry . Be Yourself . Expect nothing . Work for everything . Love what you do . And really put your heart and soul into it if that ’ s what you really want to do . Just remember , your competing with the top 40 on the billboard , not just your city . Think bigger .
What should people expect from a live show from you ?
My show is high-pace on the stage partying and having a good time . Performing is something I ' ve always loved since I was a kid and I just have fun with it , interacting with the crowd and trying to create a positive energy in the room !
Are you musically inclined to other instruments ? Yes , I play the drums and have played the guitar , trumpet , piano and percussion instruments . How do you feel about originality ?
I feel that being original is extremely important if you wanna stand out as an artist . There ’ s ALOT of people trying to do what I ' m doing , so I have to keep it in my head that if I ' m not going out of my way to separate myself from the masses than I ' m just gonna blend in . It ’ s a brutal industry ; you have to be ready for change .
