College of Veterinarians of ON College of Veterinarians of Ontario NEW VIDEOS ASSIST CLINICS WITH CONTROLLED DRUG MANAGEMENT Two new instructional videos are now available to assist veterinarians and their staff with the important tasks of maintaining an appropriate drug log and conducting a proper drug audit. The Maintaining a Controlled Drug Log video explains how to maintain a proper drug log. It discusses the roles of everyone involved in the order and purchase of controlled drugs and how to ensure all the regulatory requirements are achieved. This video provides informative tips on: • elements of a complete controlled drug log • requirements for purchasing and receiving controlled drugs • inspection of shipping materials and controlled drugs received • management of controlled drug inventory • security of controlled drugs The Conducting a Controlled Drug Audit video explains the process for completing the controlled drug audit, including how to measure controlled drugs and what to do when irregularities are identified. This video offers advice on: • how often to conduct a controlled drug audit • steps to performing a controlled drug audit • why controlled drug audits are necessary • how to measure open bottles • who should conduct the audit • what to do in the case of a discrepancy The College encourages veterinarians and their staff members to watch the videos.
