COLLEGE BASEBALL RECRUITING SPECIAL EDITION Special Edition | Page 33

D1 National Champion Coach Turned Sport Tech Entrepreneur On Why The Recruiting Process is so CRAZY From my experiences in talking with parents, watching and recruiting players from all across the nation, and dealing with professional players and agents, we know there is not an exact science to the recruiting process. However, the process will never change. HOW THE RECRUITING PROCESS REALLY WORKS: Talent will always drive the position of power. The more skill a player has, which is developed into talent, and then displayed during performance … the more leverage the player will have during the recruiting process. This will never change and only the athlete can control this. The #1 focus of all high school players should be to get evaluated by a professional scout, college coach, or non-biased individual who can accurately classify both the “present” and “future” talent level of the player. The player and parent should then fully accept the evaluation and seek to search, find and evaluate programs that align in talent level. The recruiting process is always a two-way street. Now, there will always be “filters” that will determine if a school is a possibility, like cost of tuition, distance from home, academic requirement of a school, etc. But make no mistake, the recruiting process will always be determined by the skill, talent, and performance talent of the athlete. Every time someone learns of my background, I’m asked if I can help them with getting their son a scholarship to play college ball. I always respond with a resounding NO … and I quickly add that no one else can either. Not his summer or high school coach, and definitely not some 3rd party recruiting service. I tell them that the only person who can help your son is your son himself! And I always tell them to find a Bamboo program … Watch this video to learn about what a Bamboo program is! See, my experiences have enabled me to serve the next generation of student- athletes through data and technology. But it always starts with an education of the college recruiting process.
