D1 National Champion Coach Turned Sport Tech Entrepreneur
On Why The Recruiting Process is so CRAZY
Nashville, TN … Johnny was being sent letters, mailings,
and camp invitations from a wide range of colleges
during his sophomore year in high school. After receiving
questionnaires from both high-profile D1 schools to local
D3 programs, Johnny’s hopes and desires were set on
getting a scholarship to one of the high profile schools
that he would watch on ESPN compete for a national title
at College World Series in Omaha, NE.
During his junior year, the schools were all emailing him
updates on their season. Johnny was excited about the
upcoming summer when coaches from the NCAA would
be able to start calling him. He had already been talking
with coaches from some NAIA schools, but he had yet to
receive any scholarship offers. When July rolled around,
Johnny was immediately frustrated. He was getting a few
calls from some mid-major D1 programs, but they were
not that serious. The coaches were simply trying to find
out if Johnny had offers from other programs. Some of his
other teammates were getting scholarship offers and
being invited to campus on unofficial visits.
But not Johnny. He did have a few D2, NAIA, and D3 schools call and ask him to come visit while
offering low scholarships and academic aid. But the high-profile programs that Johnny always
watched at the college world series never called.
Then in early August, a small mid-major D1 school reached out by phone the first time. They
indicated they really liked him after watching him play in a recent tournament. The school was
located 10 hours away by car, and this only made Johnny just feel more frustrated. He didn’t want
to go that far away from home, and no high-profile schools were offering him. By the end of the
summer, he had only 1 mid-major D1 program offer him, but several D2, NAIA, and D3 schools.
He felt confused and frustrated. He felt powerless.
Are you a high school baseball player who wants to play
college baseball?
If so, the question is, “Do you want to have the POWER to control your future?”
Johnny’s story and recruiting path is not uncommon. It’s actually very common. Only a select
group of players from the high school level are given opportunities to play at a D1 program. Yet
the skill level of D1 players, NAIA players, JUCO players and some D2 players are very similar.
There are actually more draft picks from Southern programs at the NAIA, JUCO and D2 level than
from northern D1 programs. Those are facts. The data doesn’t lie!
From years of recruiting players at the college level, recruiting the nation’s #1 ranked class,
recruiting 3 players selected in the top-10 picks in the MLB draft, leading a team in winning a D1
National Championship at the College World Series in Omaha, and being a D1 head coach at the
power-5 level, we know and firmly believe you deserve to own the knowledge to control your
future!
