Shady embarks on a career
with the Australian Navy
Shady Gawad, a
recent graduate in
Diploma of
Information
Technology
at Kingscliff
TAFE
says
when
he
first
saw
the
position
for
Communication
and Information Systems Submariner
advertised on the Navy’s website, he felt
that it was made for him.
Shady’s emerging skills enabled him
to work as a computer technician
whilst studying a Diploma of Maritime
Constructions
Electrical,
which
eventually lead to work as a technician
on a ship based along the Suez Canal in
his homeland, Egypt.
Unfortunately, Shady’s vast experience
in the IT industry wasn’t enough to secure
a job in this field, so he enrolled in a
Diploma of Information Technology at
TAFE to obtain a qualification that would
be recognised in Australia.
Scott Martin, Teacher of Information
Technology at North Coast TAFE, says
Shady was a star student who showed
a passion for IT, in particular the area of
networking and security.
“As a result of Shady’s attributes, at
the Kingscliff TAFE Student Recognition
Awards he was awarded the Southern
Cross University Award for outstanding
achievement for Information Technology
at diploma level,” says Mr Martin.
In November 2014 Shady received his
Australian Citizenship, which along with
his diploma qualifications enabled him
to pursue his dream of working for the
Australian Navy.
