Every year just after Christmas, the City
of Harbin in China transforms itself into a
magical winter wonderland of fantasy
and playfulness. The Harbin Ice Festival is
the biggest event of its type, and attracts
visitors from all over the world. Beautiful
Ice Sculptures grace the city’s streets,
and two areas are set aside for some
truly amazing pieces of Ice art. Ice and
Snow World features illuminated full-size
buildings made from blocks of crystal
clear ice up to two feet thick. Sun Island,
on the opposite side of the main river
(from where the ice is taken) is home to
huge snow sculptures, and many winter
activities, including Ice Skating and Dog
sledding.
Harbin is in the North East of China, and
can be accessed by comfortable Bullet
train from Beijing, in about 8 hours. The
journey of 1200 kilometres takes you
closer to the border with Russia, and the
architectural influences of Eastern Europe
become more obvious as the journey
progresses..indeed, Harbin is also known
as the Eastern Moscow.

Xi’an, (where you can see the Terracotta
Warriors) and Harbin for some fun in the
