Stability Ball Use in Classrooms
Studied
Campbell Honored at State,
National Levels
Dr. Alicia Fedewa and collaborators recently completed
a randomized controlled design investigating the effects of
stability balls on children’s on-task behavior, achievement,
and discipline referrals. The study is in press with the
Journal of Occupational Therapy. Results showed children
in treatment classrooms who received stability balls in lieu of
chairs did not show greater levels of on-task behavior than
children in the control classrooms. However, a downward
trend in disruptive behaviors was observed in classrooms
where stability balls were used. Last, achievement levels were
not significantly enhanced by the use of the stability balls in
the general education classroom. Fedewa, A. L., Davis, M.
C., & Ahn, S.
Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear recently appointed
Dr. Jonathan Campbell to serve as a member of the State
Advisory Council on Autism Spectrum Disorders until
October 2016. Campbell has been identified as one of the
25 most productive scholars in APA-accredited School
Psychology programs by a study recently published in
Psychology in the Schools.
Fedewa Article Receives Editor’s
Choice Award in LGBT Journal
A meta-analysis published by Dr. Alicia Fedewa and
collaborators in the Journal of LGBT Family Studies was
voted Editor’s Choice Article of 2014. The analysis assessed
outcomes of children with same-gender parents. It showed
significant differences across same gender parents with
respect to strength of the parent-child relationship and child
gender role behavior outcomes. No other child outcomes,
including sexual orientation, psychological adjustment, or
gender identity were moderated by parent gender or sexual
orientation. Fedewa, A. L., Black, W & Ahn, S (2014).
