Faculty and Students Give Presentations at Educational Administration Conference
Educational Leadership Studies faculty and students participated in the University Council for Educational Administration convention in Detroit in November .
Dr . Wayne Lewis served on the program committee for the conference . Presentations were provided by :

Rous , Nash Prototype New System of Coaching for Care Providers
In partnership with the Human Development Institute ( HDI ), Drs . John Nash and Beth Rous received funding from the Division of Child Care , Race-to-the-Top Early Learning Challenge , to prototype a new system of coaching services for licensed early care and education providers across the

state . The project focuses on the use of Design Thinking and empathy-based feedback loops to support the design and implementation of the system .
This includes two key activities : first , the development of a virtual provider portal to engage center and homebased providers in quality improvement

Rous efforts , and second , the use of CoachMeets across the state to identify and develop a Coaching Toolkit to support coaches in meeting provider needs related to increased program quality .
The project team includes post-doctoral scholars Dr . Joanne Rojas ( Department of Educational , School , and Counseling Psychology graduate ) and Dr . Victoria Sherif ( Educational Leadership Studies graduate ), Chithra Adam , HDI director of evaluation and Educational Leadership Studies doctoral student , and HDI research and development associates Patti Singleton and Mary Howard .

Visit Provides Inspiration for Undergraduate Programming in Rehabilitation and Human Services
Dr . James T . Herbert , a professor of counselor education at Pennsylvania State University , visited the UK College of Education in October . He delivered recommendations for development of an undergraduate program within the Rehabilitation Counseling program in the Department of Early Childhood , Special Education and Rehabilitation Counseling . Herbert gave an engaging presentation on Penn State ’ s model of undergraduate education in Rehabilitation and Human Services , including program layout , courses , and other specifics . Herbert ’ s recommendations for UK were based on a review of what currently exists at the university and a basic needs assessment for human services in the Commonwealth of Kentucky . Herbert ’ s address was well received by all who attended . The event was part of a cross-departmental effort with the College of Education ’ s Department of Educational , School , and Counseling Psychology to develop an undergraduate degree program in the human services , with a specific emphasis on disability and human services work within the community .
