5 Free Apps for Your Finances We can all use a little help keeping our finances together. Take a little time to set up these apps on your mobile device and over time you will reap the rewards. 1. Pocketbook – This app uses data from your online banking. It will collect information from your bank account and allow you to classify your income and expenses according to various categories. You can use the standard categories in the app or create your own. You can review your income and expenses weekly and monthly and look at the individual transactions. The app automatically updates itself and sends you an email each week on your income and expenses for the week. You can also set up budgets and track your progress. This app will have itself set up within 60 seconds of linking to your bank accounts. It will automatically classify most of your data. It is a great way to track your spending and keep on top of your finances. 2. Shoeboxed – This app allows you to take photos of your bills and the app then extracts the financial details from the bill and organises it into information that can be used to do your tax return or import into your accounting system. You can also post them copies of your bills or scan and email them. It is free for a single user and a great way for an entrepreneur to keep copies of their bills electronically. It eliminates the need to keep hard copies for your tax returns. 3. Your Bank’s Mobile App – Every major Australian bank now has a mobile banking app. Keep track of your bank balances and make payments on the go. You can also check to see if payments have been received. Some apps provide an alert for payments! 4. LogitFleetCare – This app can be used to create a log book to track your use of your vehicle for work or business related purposes. This can be helpful in increasing your tax deductions at tax time. Enter your trips manually or use the GPS feature. You will need to keep a log for a continuous period of three months. 5. GoodThnx – This app is all about saying thanks to people and donating to charity. When someone does something good for you, you can say thanks by sending them a message via the app and donating a sum (as little as 10c).
