Alicante to plant more trees
The
Alicante
Provincial
Government is committed to
Brussels to plant more Trees. The
number
amounts
to
a
commitment over the next
decade of one million trees
throughout the province. Last
week Alicante President Cesar
Sanchez headed the delegation
from Alicante at the ceremony of
the Covenant of Mayors for
Climate Change at the Brussels
Parliament.
The President of the Delegation
of Alicante, César Sánchez,
announced on Thursday, from the
European Parliament in Brussels, that the Provincial
Government is committed to plant one million trees in
the province over the next decade in order to prevent
the emission of an average of 500,000 tons of CO2 in the
territory. As an initiative, Sanchez invited everyone to
join with the civil initiative; society, volunteers, NGOs
and the educational community of all municipalities in
Alicante. Sanchez, who was participating in the
Ceremony of the Covenant of Mayors on Climate
Change, is leading a delegation also comprised Alicante
deputies for the Protection and Land Management,
Javier Sendra, Chairman, Economic and Institutional
Relations, Carlos Castillo, and Finance and
Administration, Alejandro Morant, respectively, and by
the provincial deputy Fernando Sepulchre.
The provincial institution assumes, with its presence
in the act, the objectives of this forum are to reduce by
40%, its CO2 emissions by 2030, in addition to
continuing its efforts to encourage and promote the
efficiency and energy saving. The province leads the
European level with the number of accessions to the
Covenant, in addition to compliance with
environmental commitments. Also, Cesar Sanchez

The Spanish contingent at the Covenant of Mayors

joined the campaign to combat climate change in the
United Nations Environment Programme "Plant for the
Planet: Campaign billion trees'. The objective of this
proposal is to encourage environmental citizens,
communities, organizations, governments, businesses
and industries to repopulate the planet with trees. The

promote sustainable use of ecosystems,

attached to the Covenant of Mayors that have benefited
